Marvelon Pills is used for oral contraception to prevent pregnancy and to regulate menstrual cycles. It provides reliable birth control when taken as directed and may help reduce menstrual pain, heavy bleeding, and symptoms of premenstrual syndrome for some users. Formulation / Ingredients
Marvelon Pills contains: Desogestrel 150mcg + Ethinylestradiol 30mcg
Side Effects
Marvelon Pills common side effects include: nausea, headache, breast tenderness, mood changes, weight changes, and breakthrough bleeding during initial cycles. Less frequently reported effects include changes in libido, gastrointestinal discomfort, and skin reactions. Most side effects diminish over time with continued use as the body adjusts to hormonal changes.
Directions and Dosage
- Adults and adolescents post-menarche: 1 tablet daily for 21 days, followed by 7 tablet-free days
- Maximum daily dosage: 1 tablet per day
Not recommended for pre-menarche children. Take consistently at the same time daily with fluid. If vomiting occurs within 3-4 hours of intake, take another tablet.
Contraindications
- History of venous thromboembolism or high thrombosis risk
- Severe liver disease or hepatic tumors
- Known or suspected hormone-sensitive cancers
- Undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding
- Hypersensitivity to active ingredients
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
- Contraindicated during confirmed pregnancy
- Components excreted in breast milk - not recommended while breastfeeding
Special Precautions
- Discontinue immediately if thrombosis symptoms develop
- Use caution with cardiovascular risk factors or hypertension
- May affect glucose tolerance in diabetics
- Increased risk of cervical cancer with long-term use
Is it safe to take it with other medications?
Concurrent use with antibiotics, anticonvulsants, or St. John's Wort may reduce contraceptive efficacy. Additional barrier contraception is recommended. Avoid combination with other hormonal products unless directed. Always disclose current medications before starting treatment.
